2012 Isuzu D-Max Buying Guide NZ

The 2012 Isuzu D-Max is the RT-series workhorse sold new in New Zealand from Thailand. It uses Isuzu’s 3.0-litre 4JJ1-TC turbo-diesel in Euro 4 tune — 130kW and 380Nm — with a five-speed auto or five-speed manual, and either rear-drive or part-time Terrain Command 4x4. This is the pre-DPF generation, which is why many Kiwi buyers still seek a tidy 2012 over a cheaper-looking 2017-onwards truck. NZ asking prices about $15,000 – $20,000 as of 2026-09 (guide only). Pre-purchase checklist: Test from cold. Listen for rattles, boost issues and auto flare, then engage 4H/4L on a 4x4 and confirm the dash lights behave; Confirm air-conditioning blows cold at idle and on the move — evaporator replacement is a dash-out job.
